things.....

things are just things.

if your house were on fire, and you knew that your husband, kids, and pets were all safe... what three things would you grasp as you fled to safety?
this thought came about, as my husband and i decided to sell our home that we newly built seven years ago.  it's furnished with the nicest of things.  things. just things. things that are nice, but they don't define us. things that are not important in the realm of life.
two things came to mind immediately.

the first being my bible.  Having had some serious hallelujah moments while reading my bible, has led me to record growing moments in the margins. I've developed a relationship with God that is logged on the sheer pages of my bonded leather bible. tear stains and ink record each new revolution that God has revealed to me.

second, i would snatch up a home made leather journal my husband gave me as a gift on my birthday. he has written notes to me from time to time of his heart felt thoughts about me, us as a couple, what God is doing our lives, with all the hopes and dreams he wishes for us in the future. i cherish his words in print.  it's priceless and irreplaceable.

third,...would be things that would be difficult to reach in a fire. but the Christmas ornaments our children and grand children have made us over the years. the love and sheer joy that went into the glue, felt, glitter, and pipe cleaners to create an ornament forever to adorn our tree. those are real treasures.

everything else could be replaced.  even in the technology age, pictures can be replace.

what three things would you grasp as you fled?
